Set the paper size to 4×6 on a DYMO 4XL

  • Choose the label size named "1744907 Shipping" or "4 in x 6 in" in the driver.
  • Set scaling to 100% / Actual size and disable any Shrink to fit.
  • Keep orientation Portrait; the 4XL feeds the 4 in edge first.
  • Set print quality to Barcodes and graphics rather than Text.

iPhone

  1. 1The 4XL is USB only, so it cannot print directly from an iPhone.
  2. 2Either share the converted PDF to a Mac or PC, or plug the printer into a computer that the phone can send to.
  3. 3The 5XL adds network printing and does appear in AirPrint; set Paper Size 4 x 6 in there.
  4. 4Convert on the phone if you like, then AirDrop or email the finished 4 × 6 PDF to the computer.

Android

  1. 1There is no Android driver for the 4XL; treat it as a computer-attached printer.
  2. 2Convert the label on your phone, then send the 4 × 6 PDF to the computer over Drive, email or USB.
  3. 3On a 5XL, use Mopria Print Service over Wi-Fi with paper size 4 x 6 in.
  4. 4Keep scaling at 100% wherever you finally print from.

Fix labels that print tiny, off-center or across two labels

The label prints about 60% size with a wide white border
Something is scaling the PDF, usually Shrink to fit or a Letter paper size. Select the 4 in x 6 in shipping label size and 100% scaling.
DYMO Connect rescales my imported PDF
Do not import into DYMO Connect. Print the converted 4 × 6 PDF straight from Preview, Adobe or Chrome to the LabelWriter.
The print is shifted down and clips the bottom
The black mark is misread. Remove the roll, feed a fresh label with the form-feed button, and make sure the labels are seated under both guides.
Two labels feed for one print
The driver label size is longer than the stock. Reselect 4 in x 6 in, and check you are not on 4 in x 6.5 in continuous stock.
The barcode looks soft
Switch print quality from Text to Barcodes and graphics. The 4XL prints 300 dpi, so a sharp source PDF matters; this converter keeps the label as vector artwork.

About DYMO 4XL drivers

The 4XL uses black-mark die-cut labels, not gap sensing, so the label length must match the driver's size exactly. The converter's DYMO 4XL preset is a true 4 × 6 in page, which is what the 1744907 and 2026404 stock expects. Avoid DYMO Connect's Import and Resize path; print the PDF from Preview, Adobe or Chrome instead.

Which DYMO labels are 4×6?

Part 1744907 (4XL) and 2026404 (5XL) are the 4 × 6 in shipping labels. Both work with the DYMO 4XL preset here.

Can I use cheaper compatible rolls?

Yes on the 4XL. The 5XL checks an RFID tag on genuine DYMO rolls, so compatible stock can be refused depending on firmware.

Why is my DYMO print only half the label wide?

Either the PDF is a letter page being shrunk, or the label size is set to a narrower DYMO stock. Fix the size first, then the scaling.

Does the 4XL print 300 dpi?

Yes, which is why a vector crop matters. A screenshot of a label prints noticeably softer than the converted PDF.

Can I print from an iPad to a 4XL?

Not directly; the 4XL is USB only. The 5XL supports network printing and works with AirPrint.
