The two settings that fix almost everything
- 1Set the paper size or stock to 4 × 6 in (100 × 150 mm), not Letter or A4.
- 2Set scaling to 100% or Actual size and turn Fit to page off, then convert the label to a true 4 × 6 PDF so there is nothing left to shrink.

Printer questions
Which settings matter most for 4×6 labels?
Two: the paper or stock size must be 4 × 6 in, and scaling must be 100% with Fit to page off. Almost every bad label print comes from one of those being wrong.
Why does the same PDF print differently on two printers?
Each driver has its own default stock size and its own scaling behaviour. A PDF that is already exactly 4 × 6 removes most of that difference, which is what the converter produces.
Do I need the manufacturer's driver?
On a Mac or PC, yes. Generic drivers usually lack the 4 × 6 stock and the darkness control, which is where faint barcodes come from.
What darkness or density should I use?
Start around two thirds of maximum at 4 inches per second. Raise it if bars look grey, lower it if they bleed into each other.
How often should I calibrate?
Every time you change roll brand or size. Calibration is how the printer learns where one label ends and the next begins.
